Simple Blue

Supplies -

Scrapkit of choice - I used the freebie scrapkit “A Hint of Pink” by Bluey. You can get kit at her blog here: http://bluedreamdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/10/new-hint-of-pink-scrap-kit.html

Scraps needed: 2 papers, frame, embellishments of choice

Tube or Image of choice – I am using art that is ©artmam.com, http://artmam.com. This image is supplied for you. Download it HERE

Masks of choice – I am using Vix_Mask268. You can find it here: http://www.freewebs.com/vixpsp/masks.htm. Just scroll down until you see the group with 268 in it. She has great masks, so you’ll probably download more than one set of masks. Whatever you download, please leave her some love…

Font of choice – I am using “Angelica,” which you can get here: http://www.dafont.com/angelica.font

Plug-In – None

Optional – Eye Candy – I used Gradient Glow for text.

Animation Shop – For optional animation

This tutorial is written using PSP X2, but should be easy to do on other versions. It is written assuming you have a general working knowledge of PSP.

Here we go!

First, open a new canvas 500 x 500. Then, flood fill white.

Open one of your papers – I am using “Paper 5” from the kit. Copy and paste it onto your canvas.

After you download your mask, you will need to install it in your Masks folder before you can use it. This is usually My Documents>My PSP Files>Masks

Apply Vix_Mask 268 – Go to Layers>Load/Save Mask>Load Mask from Disk; choose Vix_Mask268. Source Luminance, Fit to canvas, and Hide all mask should be selected.  Invert Transparency should be UNchecked.

Select your mask layer. Image>Resize>105%. Be sure that “Resize all layers” is UNchecked.

Right click your mask layer and choose Merge>Merge Group. Save your progress.

Duplicate the merged layer. On the original, Adjust>Blur>Gaussian Blur – Radius: 10.

Open your frame – I am using “Frame 6” from the kit. Image>Resize>70%. Copy and paste it onto your canvas. Arrange it on your canvas to your liking.

Open your tube and duplicate it into a new window (just use Shift+D). Close the original and leave the duplicate up.

If you are using the same tube as me, you will want to resize it 61%. Copy and paste it onto your canvas.

Arrange your tube to your liking. I applied Image>Mirror (CTRL+M). Save your progress.

Activate your magic wand tool. Set the Mode to Add and the Match Mode to Color, Tolerance and Feather set to “0”.

Activate your frame layer. Click inside the frame. Also, click in the area below the ribbon, still inside the frame.

Selections>Modify>Expand by 5. Selections>Invert (or CTRL+Shift+I).

Activate your tube layer and hit Delete. Selections>None. Save your progress.

If you want to change the eye color to match your frame, be sure that you are using a tube that you are allowed to make color changes. Artmam does allow this, so you CAN follow these steps if you use the same tube as me.

*Change from your magic wand to your freehand selection tool, settings: Point to point, mode: add, tolerance and feather “0”.

*Zoom in on your canvas to about 300%, so you can really see the detail of the eyes.

*With your tube layer active, use your selection tool to select the eye area (just the part that you want to colorize, so not the whole eyeball LOL)

*To use this tool, you left click at points around the eye, once you have drawn around the entire eye area, right click to connect your points.

*Repeat this on the other eye.

*Adjust>Hue & Saturation>Colorize – play with the settings until you have your desired eye color. I used Hue: 130, Saturation: 55.

          *Selections>Select None

*If you want, you can do the lips too, I used Hue: 0, Saturation: 55.

Save your progress.

Add your elements of choice, copyright info, & your text of choice.

If you are not animating, save as .png and you are done!

If you’d like to animate your tag, you will want to save your progress. Open Animation Shop and then go back to PSP.

Activate your merged mask layer (the blue swirly one that we did not blur).

Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise. Choose settings “Uniform” and 60%, Monochrome should be CHECKED.

Edit> Copy Special>Copy Merged

Go to Animation Shop and Edit>Paste>As New Animation (or CTRL+V)

Back in PSP, Edit>Undo (or CTRL+Z)

Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise. Choose settings “Uniform” and 61%, Monochrome should be CHECKED.

Edit> Copy Special>Copy Merged

Go to Animation Shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame (or CTRL+Shift+L)

Back in PSP, Edit>Undo (or CTRL+Z)

Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise. Choose settings “Uniform” and 62%, Monochrome should be CHECKED.

Go to Animation Shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame (or CTRL+Shift+L)

Still in Animation Shop – Edit>Select All (or CTRL+A)

Animation>Frame Properties – Change the display time to 15

View>Animation – You can speed up the “twinkling” by changing the display time to a number lower than 15, or slow it down by using a higher number.

When you are happy with it, save as GIF and you are done.
