Do I Dazzle You?

Supplies

Scrapkit of choice - I used the freebie scrapkit “Edward” by Ellie Lash. You can get the kit at her blog here: http://ellielash.com/blog/?p=149

Scraps needed: 1 paper, word art of choice

Tube or Image of choice – I am using awesome Twilight fan art that is ©David Desbois, http://daviddeb.deviantart.com. He does commissions (including Twilight scenes!) so check out his DA site. Oh, he also sells prints and ACEO’s on Ebay – there’s a link in his DA profile ;)

Font of choice – I am using “Pavillion Script SSK,” if you don't have it, any scripty font will do.

Plug-InMura’s Filter Meister: Copies. You can get it here: http://www.photoshop-filters.com/downloads/mura/mmCopies13.zip

-          dsb flux: Linear Transmission. You can get it here: http://www.gardendaledesigns.com/Frame011PlugInDSB.zip

-          Eye Candy 3.1 – I used Glow for word art and my name (used Eye Candy 5 Impact: Gradient Glow for my name, but 3.1 will work). You can get Eye Candy 3.1 here: http://pircnet.com/downloads/eyecandyse129win.exe

Optional – Eye Candy 3.1 – I used Glow for word art and my name. You can get it here:

Dsb flux – Bright Noise (Or you can use Add/Remove Noise feature that comes with PSP).

Here we go!

This tutorial is written using PSP X2, but should be easy to do on other versions. It is written assuming you have a general working knowledge of PSP.

First, open a new canvas 500 x 500.

Open one of your papers – I am using paper 4 from the kit. Resize it to 500x500, then copy and paste it onto your canvas.

Open your tube or image of choice. Copy and paste it onto your canvas. Save your progress.

Resize your image if necessary. You want it to take up the whole center of your canvas. I resized mine to 276 wide and 387 high.

***Shortcut – instead of going to Image>Resize, you can just hit Shift+S!***

Add a drop shadow to your tube / image. I used 5, 5, 70, 8, black. Save.

Now, activate your preset shape tool, and choose “Rectangle”. Set your line width to 10, and you line style to “solid”. Set your foreground to your color of choice (mine is black), and your background is null (turned off).

Draw out a rectangle to frame your image / tube. Once it’s the right size, convert it to a raster layer. (My rectangle is 282 x 395.) Save.

Using your magic wand tool (tolerance and feather set to 0, mode set to add, match mode set to none), click inside your rectangle.

Selections>Modify>Expand by 3.

Add a new raster layer below your tube / image layer. On the new layer, flood fill the selected area with your color of choice. (I used #600000)

Selections>Invert

Click on your tube / image layer and hit delete. This will remove any of the drop shadow that is outside of the frame. ;)

Selections>None. Save.

Go to your flood filled layer. Add either a texture of your choice, or apply Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds, with settings 5, 45, black (nothing checked).

Right-click on your rectangle layer and choose merge down. (You should be merging this down onto your tube/image layer.)

Repeat this step on the new merged layer, merging it down onto the flood filled layer. Save.

On this new merged layer, apply drop shadow 5, 5, 70, 8, black. Then, drop shadow -5, -5, 70, 8, black.

Duplicate the merged layer. Hide the copy and go back to the original merged layer.

On the original merged layer, apply Mura’s Meister: Copies with the settings below (I changed several of the settings, so look closely LOL) –

Go to Adjust>Hue & Saturation>Colorize – Change both the numbers to “0”. Save.

Duplicate this layer. Hide the copy and go back to the original.

Apply dsb flux: Linear Transmission, with the following settings:

Save.

Unhide the layers that you had previously hidden (the b&w Mura’s layer and the original framed layer). Save.

Open your word art of choice. I am using the dazzle word art from the kit. The instructions below assume you are using the same word art. If you’re using something      different, then you may need to slightly modify the following steps.

If your word art is larger than your canvas, resize it to a width of 485 pixels (be sure that “lock aspect ratio” is CHECKED when you resize the word art).

Copy and paste the word art onto your canvas. Move it down towards the bottom of the canvas (see my tag). Save.

Now, on your word art layer, activate your freehand selection tool (settings Selection Type: Point to Point, Mode: Add, Feather & Smoothing 0).

With your selection tool, carefully draw around the word “dazzle”.

*To use this tool, you left click at points around the word; once you have drawn around the entire word, right click to connect your points. If you ever click at the wrong point, hit the delete key to remove the last point ;)

Once you have the word dazzle selected, go to Selections>Promote Selection to Layer.

Then, go back to the original word art layer and hit delete. This should leave you with one layer with just the word dazzle, and one layer with just the words “Do I you?”

Selections>None. Save.

On your “Do I you?” layer, apply Eye Candy 3.1>Glow using these settings (color is the same red as before #600000, but you could use white or other color of your choice) –

Apply a drop shadow of 3, 5, 70, 5, black. Save.

If you are going to resize your tag, do so now. I resized mine to 400x400.

Add your copyright info and tagger’s mark (f you use one). Save.

Add your name. I used the same red as before (#600000), and added a white gradient glow. (I also free rotated 15 degrees to the left.) Save.

If you are not animating, save as .png and you are done!

If you’d like to animate your tag, you will want to save your progress. Open Animation Shop and then go back to PSP.

Activate your “dazzle” layer. Apply dsb flux>Bright Noise with these settings:

Edit> Copy Special>Copy Merged

Go to Animation Shop and Edit>Paste>As New Animation (or CTRL+V)

Back in PSP, Edit>Undo (or CTRL+Z)

Repeat the Bright Noise, but click the word “Mix” once or twice before you apply it.

Edit> Copy Special>Copy Merged

Go to Animation Shop and Edit>Paste>After Current Frame (or CTRL+Shift+L)

Back in PSP, Edit>Undo (or CTRL+Z)

Repeat these steps until you have at least 3 frames of animation. (My tag has 5 frames.)

View>Animation – You can speed up the “twinkling” by changing the display time to a number lower than 15, or slow it down by using a higher number.

When you are happy with it, save as GIF and you are done.
